Garden State Equality’s first-ever Day of Pride and Public Service is on Saturday, June 5, 2010 beginning at 12:00 noon. At supermarkets in North, Central and South Jersey, Garden State Equality members will be leading food drives for local pantries which feed the poor and underprivileged across the state. It’s one of the ways we try to give back to the state we love.
If you would like to join a food drive in North Jersey or Central Jersey, please email Troy Stevenson at Stevenson@GardenStateEquality.org with your name, hometown, cell phone, and if applicable, the names of your partner, spouse and/or friends who’ll be joining you. Please put FOOD DRIVE in the subject line of your email to Troy.
If you would like to join a food drive in South Jersey, please email Kim Otto at kmotto3@aol.com with your name, hometown, cell phone, and if applicable, the names of your partner, spouse and/or friends who’ll be joining you. Please put FOOD DRIVE in the subject line of your email to Kim.

In the NY Times Weddings/Celebrations pages there is often a picture of a same gender couple celebrating their wedding or anniversary. As far as we can tell, The Record has never printed any same sex couple’s pictures.
We believe there is a fee of $50 to get a picture in The Record.
We are, therefore, looking for couples who would be willing to submit their picture and a brief paragraph to The Record for an anniversary or civil union celebration notice. PFLAG Bergen County will reimburse you for the fee. We want to see if The Record will print it. If not, Lambda Legal would like to know about it! We don’t have marriage in NJ but we do have civil unions so far and we should be celebrating them in the newspapers right alongside our straight counterparts – especially since civil unionization is supposed to be EQUAL to marriage.
Please contact us through our PFLAG website at http://www.bergenpflag.org if you are interested in this offer.

Dear PFLAG Chapter,
I am an Assistant Professor within the College of Health Professions and Social Work at Temple University. I am conducting a study of parents of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender children to gain a greater understanding of the concerns parents may experience upon them learning about their children’s sexual orientations and gender identities. I am asking for your assistance in obtaining participants for this study by asking that you forward this request to individuals who meet the study criteria (above age 18 and identify as a heterosexual parent of a gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender child) in hopes of getting individuals to complete my anonymous online survey at:
http://questionpro.com/t/ACVM0ZHMi7
The survey takes about 20 to 30 minutes to complete, is anonymous and does not require identifying information. Additionally, if individuals prefer to complete the survey on paper, I will send copies to these individuals along with postage paid return envelopes. If someone has questions about this survey, please contact the principal investigator Cynthia Conley at (215) 204-2164.
Thank you greatly for your time and assistance.
Sincerely,
Jennifer L. Carmody

Your thoughts and experiences are important! Results from this survey will help administrators at colleges and universities across the country make more informed decisions about LGBQ students.
After you complete the survey, please forward this email to all students who may be interested in taking a survey on sexual identity, particularly those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, questioning and other non-heterosexual identities.
Thanks in advance for your contribution. This survey is being conducted for research purposes by higher education professionals at the Pennsylvania State University. You must be at least 18 years old to participate. Please contact Kip Sorgen at kip.sorgen@psu.edu with concerns or questions.
Founded in 2008, the Q Research Institute for Higher Education (QRIHE pronounced “queery”) is a national center for the scholarly study of LGBT people in higher education. The QRIHE is owned and operated by the national nonprofit organization Campus Pride. The QRIHE’s primary purpose is to conceive, administer and support national research for LGBT issues in higher education. The QRIHE works to bring visibility and positive change addressing the needs of LGBT people at colleges and universities. The QRIHE supports the mission of Campus Pride to build future LGBT and Ally leaders and safer, more LGBT-friendly campus communities.
